The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Annual Conference is the largest gathering of ovarian cancer survivors, caregivers and medical professionals. Ryan and Karla Theer and Diane O'Connor (shown here at Sen. Cantwell's office) spent the day on Capitol Hill advocating for funding for ovarian cancer research.

2011 Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Conference, Turning Promise Into Action

Ovarian cancer survivor Diane Rader O'Connor was honored for her exemplary service and support to the ovarian cancer community. O'Connor received the Cindy Melancon Spirit of Survivorship Award in Washington, DC, during the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Annual Conference.
The award commends and honors an individual for his or her commitment to the ovarian cancer community. The reward is named after Cindy Melancon, a founder of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
An ovarian cancer survivor since 2002, O'Connor is President and co-founder of the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington, a Partner Member of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. The Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Oregon and SW Washington strives to promote awareness of ovarian cancer and to provide education to women and the health care community. They offer support to all ovarian cancer survivors by providing opportunities for networking, education and community outreach as well as advocate for public policy and funding for ovarian cancer research.

2010 Ovarian Cancer National Alliance's Power is Teal Conference

The 13th annual conference of the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance was held in Washington DC from July 10-13. Laura Dickson Bernards, Diane O'Connor, Donna Blankenship, and Pamela Phillips all participated in Lobby Day for the state of Washington and Oregon. - Diane O'Connor, Becky Coulson, and Amy Miller, of Vancouver; Cheryl Jackson, Laura Bernards, and Terri Noyes of Portland; and Donna Blankenship of Bend attended the conference together. In addition, we participated in Capitol Hill Day where we met with our legislators and health legislative aides to advocate for more funding for ovarian cancer.
May 2, 2009: STS Training Honolulu, HI

Diane O'Connor and Diane Elizondo trained 7 ovarian cancer survivors in Honolulu to speak with 3rd year medical students at the University of Hawaii about ovarian cancer. This is the newest STS (Survivors Teaching Students) program in the country. We are very proud that we could assist in making this program a reality! Currently there are over 60 STS programs throughout the nation. STS is a signature program of the Ovarian Cancer National Allliance.

- Karla Theer of Battle Ground and Diane O'Connor of Vancouver meet with Washington State Congressman Brian
Baird to advocate for $9 million for Johanna's Law; The Gynecologic Cancer Awareness and Education Act; $20
million for the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program; $6.5 million for the Ovarian Cancer
Control Initiative in CDC (Center for Disease Control); and a 6.7% increase for NIH/NCI budget to support
research, including clinical trials, early detection and treatment methods.
